What actually moves the number

Square footage & layout
More surface area and more corners, trim, and cut-in work both add time.
Surface condition
A clean repaint is quick. Peeling, bare wood, or failed caulk means real prep before a brush touches the surface.
Number of coats
Matching an existing color often needs one coat. Changing color or blocking stains usually needs two.
Paint tier
Premium and low-VOC coatings cost more per gallon, but hold color and resist the high-desert sun longer.
Access & height
Two-story walls, steep rooflines, and tight side yards take more time, ladders, and care.
